This is a festival built the way improv is built: from the ground up.

Improteca is an independent theatre in Bucharest, focused primarily on improv. We run shows year-round — long form, short form, experimental formats — alongside classic theatre, sketch comedy, and other stage events. We teach classes. We host workshops. We rehearse in the same rooms where we perform. The theatre sits in the attic of a house. It’s intimate. It’s real. It works because people show up.

The festival was born from our own funds and our own persistence. No institutional backing, no glossy infrastructure — just a community that wanted stronger training, better shows, and real exchange with experienced improvisers.

For 2026, we opened a trainer call and selected from the applications a group of artists whose work and teaching align with what we care about on stage.
